Medicare 65+

What is Medicare?
Medicare is a federal health insurance program primarily for individuals aged 65 and older, as well as certain younger individuals with disabilities. It consists of:
Part A – Hospital Insurance (covers inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing facility care, hospice, and some home health care).
Part B – Medical Insurance (covers doctor visits, outpatient care, preventive services, and some home health care).
Important: Medicare Part B has a monthly premium, which most people must pay regardless of the type of Medicare plan they choose.
In 2025, the standard Part B premium is $185.00 per month, an increase of $10.30 from $174.70 in 2024.
If your modified adjusted gross income exceeds certain thresholds, you may be subject to an Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount (IRMAA), resulting in higher premiums. For example, individuals with incomes above $106,000 and couples above $212,000 will pay more for Part B.
The only exception is if you qualify for Medicaid, which may help cover this cost.
